Five Uses for Your Phone’s Camera

Before cell phones with cameras, it was difficult to snap a photo of something unexpected… unless, of course, we happened to have a camera with us. Now, we just grab our phones and shoot. But camera phones are helpful in lots of other ways you may not have thought of yet. The camera on your phone can help you in all kinds of ways. It can help you find something, remember something, and even locate something.

But, remember, technology is not always as secure as we would like it to be. It’s important to protect any photos you don’t want other people to see. Special apps are available to download that help protect digital photos.

Here are a few uses for your camera phone that go beyond taking a keepsake snapshot.

Some helpful uses...

GROCERY SHOPPING

The next time you go to the market for your weekly grocery shopping, grab your phone and take a photo of the contents of your refrigerator, pantry, and/or food storage cabinets before you leave home. That way, if you see a few items you think you may need while at the store, you can look in your fridge, pantry, or cabinets to see if you already have the items.

SHOPPING FOR APPAREL

Most people tire fairly quickly of trying on and retrying on outfits in a store dressing room. Take a selfie once you’ve put on an outfit and then you can compare it to the next outfit without having to put the first outfit back on again. If you’re trying on numerous outfits, take a photo of each, and then compare all outfits at once by looking through the photos on your phone.

PARKING THE CAR

Most people have misplaced a car in a crowded parking garage or along an unfamiliar street. If you park in a parking garage, snap a photo of the spot you parked in as well as signs denoting the floor and section of the garage where you parked. If you park along a street, take a snapshot of a nearby landmark and the closest street sign.

RETRACING STEPS

If you are walking to a location in an unfamiliar area, take a few photos of landmarks you pass by on the way to help you recognize the route back. If you’re shopping in a mall and see a store you’d like to visit later, take a photo of the store’s sign and another of something in the immediate area that’s easy to recognize. You may want to snap a shot of the floor level sign as well if it is a multilevel shopping mall.

FINDING KEYS

Misplacing car and house keys is frustrating. It can be so easy and natural to simply drop your keys nonchalantly in some convenient spot after returning to your home. Unfortunately, it can be just as “easy and natural” to forget where you put them. If you make a habit of taking a quick photo of where you put your keys whenever you enter your home, you may never lose them again. Always delete the photo once you pick up your keys to use them again so you can repeat the process next time.
